SCI National Meeting

On February 23-24, 2006, the State Coverage Initiatives (SCI) program, a national initiative of The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, hosted a winter meeting attended by more than 125 officials from 41 states and territories. The meeting, which took place in Washington, DC, focused on the current policy debate regarding state and federal roles in health care coverage as well as in-depth discussions of strategies being undertaken by some states. In addition, information about public coverage programs, including recent Medicaid waiver activity, as well as private sector strategies of pooling and other purchasing initiatives to cover the uninsured and increase access to insurance, were examined. Additional sessions focused on new research on health care cost drivers, explored strategies to slow the growth of health care costs, and provided information about consumer-directed health care.
