State Medicaid Programs Launch Meaningful Use Programs

Starting in May 2011 providers participating in state Medicaid programs will be able to begin receiving enhanced payment for meaningful use of electronic health records (EHR) according to the provisions of the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act. Providers can also receive enhanced Medicaid payments in those states that have received approval for a meaningful use review process in their state. Alabama and Missouri recently joined 11 other states that have launched meaningful use programs, including:

  • Alaska;
  • Iowa;
  • Kentucky;
  • Louisiana;
  • Michigan;
  • Mississippi;
  • North Carolina;
  • Oklahoma;
  • South Carolina;
  • Tennessee; and
  • Texas.
