The SCI program invites you to attend its annual meeting for state officials, Aug. 4-6 at the Marquette Hotel in Minneapolis, Minn.

The passage of The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) this spring has set in motion a rush of planning and implementation work. We’ve designed the meeting to help you strategize and prioritize your state’s approach for implementing the PPACA, but to also focus on the issues that you currently face and will continue to grapple with before Jan. 1, 2014.

An SCI pre-meeting on Aug. 4 will be dedicated to a discussion of the details involved in implementing various PPACA provisions. Topics on this day will include governance and administrative decisions surrounding the operation of an exchange, communications strategies, and the tracking and coordination of newly eligible populations. SCI’s main annual meeting from Aug. 5-6 will center on initiatives that states can and have been taking to improve value in the health care system and slow the cost increase trend. To view the current draft agenda, please click here.

The workshop is open to state officials only. There is no registration fee for the meeting. We will be offering a limited number of travel scholarships reserved for those states without access to travel funds. To be considered, please request a travel scholarship no later than June 16, 2010 when completing the online registration form. If you have any questions related to scholarships, please contact Imran Mahmud, SCI’s program assistant, directly at imran.mahmud@academyhealth.org or (202) 292-6731.

All hotel reservations must be completed by Monday, July 5, 2010. A rate of $139 per night is available for this meeting. To make a reservation, please call the hotel directly at (612) 333-4545 or (800) 315-1056. Mention this AcademyHealth RWJF-State Coverage Initiatives meeting when making your reservation to receive the group rate. If you have requested a travel scholarship, please do not make your hotel arrangements.

To register and for continuously updated information on the meeting agenda, please visit the SCI 2010 Annual Meeting page on the SCI website.

We look forward to seeing you at the meeting!
