SCI and NASHP Hold ERISA Web Seminar

The State Coverage Initiatives program—along with the National Academy for State Health Policy—hosted a web seminar for state health policy leaders focusing on the policy issues surrounding the use of employer assessments and the challenge of ERISA preemption.  The February 6 Web seminar featured:

  • Mitchell Katz, director of the San Francisco Department of Public Health,
  • Stephen McCabe, assistant director of the Massachusetts Division of Health Care Finance and Policy, and
  • Patricia Butler, an independent consultant and ERISA expert.

Dr. Katz and Mr. McCabe discussed their experiences in implementing employer assessments at the local and state level, while Dr. Butler discussed strategies to avoid ERISA preemption challenges.  Dr. Butler also authored a brief for SCI and NASHP on the policy issues surrounding ERISA preemption.  The brief can be accessed by clicking here.

All the slides presented are available on the SCI Web site.  The Web seminar can be viewed by clicking here (registration is required to view the Web seminar).
