Medicaid Advisory Commission Members Named
HHS Secretary Mike Leavitt announced the appointment of 13 voting members and 15 non-voting members of the Medicaid Advisory Commission on July 8. Former Tennessee Governor Don Sundquist (R) was named as chair and former Maine Governor Angus King (I) is the vice-chair.

The Commission must recommend ways to cut $10 billion from Medicaid over five years (by September 1, 2005), and propose long-term solutions to address the program’s escalating costs (by December 31, 2006).

Two voting-member appointments are being held open for current governors so that they may join after September 1, 2005, when the Commission focuses on its long-term agenda. For more information, see the announcement.
