Annual Research Meeting: State Health Research and Policy Interest Group

AcademyHealth Interest Groups advance the research base of focused topics by providing an avenue for health services researchers, policy professionals, and practitioners to share information, showcase their research, network with peers, and learn more about those topics. AcademyHealth membership is not required to participate in the Interest Groups.

In conjunction with AcademyHealth’s Annual Research Meeting (ARM), the State Health Research and Policy Interest Group will meet on Saturday, June 25, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in Room 207 at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston.

Two invited panels will give presentations on their experiences in advancing the translation of research into policy and practice within a state setting. Officials from the Rhode Island Medicaid program will provide information on how they established an in-house research capacity to inform program development and evaluate new initiatives. In another panel, the Colorado Health Institute will show how they were able to go beyond the aggregate data related to immunization rates when the issue became politicized and how they were able to strategically frame the information in a way that policymakers could craft an appropriate response.

The final panel of the day will feature a discussion with policymakers about their experiences with putting research into practice, specifically the successes and failings of trying to use research to inform policymaking.

Meeting participants will have an opportunity to view a poster session featuring state-level date collection and research translation case studies, many of them focusing on coverage issues. A box lunch will be provided during the poster session.
