| Hot Topic: HCFO Year in Review |

2009 was a year of challenges and opportunities for all facets of the
health care sector. It was marked by an unstable economy and rapid
movement toward health reform. Like many entities that support research
and work to inform policy, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s HCFO
program adapted throughout the year to the evolving environment by
exploring the potential policy impact of funded studies and grant
proposals in relation to proposed health reform.

| New Data for Researchers |

|
The National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) released new data on
electronic medical record (EMR) and electronic health record (EHR) use,
and the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) released two
reports on hospital procedure cost increases and avoidable
hospitalizations respectively.
