Katherine Swartz, Ph.D., and Joseph P. Newhouse, Ph.D., professors at Harvard University, were recently interviewed for two separate Newsweek articles that discussed the presidential candidates’ health care reform proposals.
In the October 6, 2008 article, “Got Insurance?” Swartz discussed select components of the candidates’ health care reform proposals, including tax credits, high-risk pools, and a health insurance exchange. Swartz completed multiple HCFO-sponsored projects that examined the individual insurance market, adverse selection, and the dynamics of spells without health insurance.
In the September 8, 2008 article, “Is Medicare Healthy?” Newhouse discussed the impact of an aging population and rising health care costs on Medicare and aspects of the candidates’ proposed Medicare reforms, including price controls and means testing. Newhouse is the principal investigator for a current HCFO grant that examines the impact of the MMA-mandated changes in Medicare payment rates for chemotherapy drugs.
