HCFO Releases a New Findings Brief

For state policymakers who monitor the dynamics of health insurance coverage, estimate costs of public programs, and develop outreach and coverage initiatives, complete and accurate data on the number of uninsured are critical. Kathleen Thiede Call, Ph.D., associate professor at the University of Minnesota, and colleagues examined whether limitations in population surveys and the collection of administrative data lead to an undercount in the number of individuals with Medicaid coverage, which in turn can bias estimates of the uninsured. Findings from the study offer important guidance on the strength of these estimates.
