Building Bridges: Making a Difference in Long-Term Care 2008 Colloquium

Join The Commonwealth Fund and AcademyHealth on Saturday, June 7 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. for the fifth Building Bridges: Making a Difference in Long-Term Care Colloquium. This event—which is held in conjunction with AcademyHealth's Annual Research Meeting—is part of a strategic initiative that brings together policy leaders, providers, consumer advocates, researchers, and funders around critical issues in long-term care. The 2008 Colloquium will focus on informal caregiving and disparities in long-term care. This is a unique opportunity for stakeholders to exchange information, debate the issues, seek solutions, and identify where additional research is needed.

Seventh Annual Public Health Systems Research (PHSR) Interest Group (IG) Meeting

Join the Public Health Systems Research Interest Group (IG) on Saturday, June 7 from 12:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. for the seventh annual PHSR IG Meeting. The meeting—which is held in conjunction with AcademyHealth's Annual Research Meeting—will feature emerging research findings, new data sets for use by researchers, student scholarship recipient posters, and a PHSR article of the year award. This is a unique networking and learning opportunity for established public health systems researchers as well as other researchers interested in exploring this emering discipline. The IG also welcomes practitioners and policymakers interested in expanding their evidence-based knowledge of the public health system.
HSR Impact Award
Nomination Deadline: Wednesday, July 30
AcademyHealth requests nominations for its fourth annual HSR Impact Award, which recognizes outstanding research that has been successfully translated into health policy, management, or clinical practice and, as a result, had a positive impact on health and health care.
The winner receives:

$2,000 and complimentary registration and travel to the 2009 National Health Policy Conference where the award will be presented; and

Publication as part of the AcademyHealth "HSR Impact" series.

International Health Study Tour: The Netherlands
September 21–26, 2008
The goal of this health study tour is to stimulate new thinking about U.S. health policy issues by interacting with experts from the Netherlands that are grappling with similar problems. The tour will include senior health services researchers and policy professionals, health plan executives, administrators, and federal and state government officials. The tour is offered in collaboration with the Royal Netherlands Embassy and the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport. Visit the tour Web site for registration information.
NCHS and AcademyHealth Name 2008 Health Policy Fellows
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) and AcademyHealth are pleased to announce the selection of Ashley Schempf, Ph.D., and Manfred Stommel, Ph.D., as the recipients of the 2008–2009 NCHS/AcademyHealth Health Policy Fellowship. In its seventh year, the fellowship program brings visiting scholars in health services research-related disciplines to NCHS in Hyattsville, Md., to conduct studies of interest to policymakers and the health services research community. Fellows have access to NCHS data resources and work on collaborative projects with NCHS staff.
